Spring Clean Up This Weekend
Just a reminder that Spring Clean Up day is this Saturday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the
Mendota Plaza. Spring Clean-Up is made possible by a grant from the Office of Environmental
Assistance and Dakota County Environmental Management.
Burning Down the House
This Saturday at 7:30am, the Fire Department will be doing the live burn training on the home in
Hidden Creek. They will begin with live fires in the home and will send crews into the controlled
environment to extinguish the fires. Then sometime between 10-11, they will let the house
become fully involved and burn to the ground. Council approved the plan last fall, but because
of weather and lack of access, the fire department was unable to complete the exercise. The
department has been drilling regularly on the home for the last two months. This opportunity is
invaluable to our firefighters as they receive the opportunity for true hands on experience in as
safe an environment as possible.
Congratulations to Officer Hurst
Officer Jennifer Hurst is now a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. She wrote the
following:
“Hopefully, in the next few weeks I will get all of my supplies in order to perform car
seat inspections right here at the Police Department/City Hall. I am sending this e-mail
to spread awareness of this service that is free not only to Mendota Heights residents but
to anyone who is interested. Until then, I am doing car seat inspections at the West St
Paul Police Department and we have two big car seat clinics coming up. (May 15th- 4-7
pm in West St. Paul at the Police/Fire Department on Humboldt and on June 7th- 9am to
1 pm, Apple Valley at the NWA Credit Union parking ramp.) If you or someone you run
into (i.e. friends, family, or the public) is interested, please feel free to refer them to me. I
will either set them up with an appointment at the clinic or individually with me, or refer
them to someone in their area. In addition, my information will be on the Minnesota
Office of Traffic Safety website but it is not updated yet. I also will have some seats
available for people who cannot afford seats, as this money was made available through
the police department participation in the Safe and Sober program.”
Visit From Cari & Baby Greta
City Administrator Cari Lindberg brought Greta in to City Hall on Wednesday morning. Greta
seemed happy to meet everyone and then let it be known that she was ready to go home after
being shown off and passed from person to person for baby cuddles. We were all thrilled to
meet our new little friend Greta and to see both Mom and Baby doing so well and looking so
great.
Tuesday Luncheon
On Tuesday, a group of City Hall supervisors treated the administrative staff to lunch at Players
in honor of “Secretaries Day”. It was reported that the food was good, the conversation lively,
and the company excellent. Thanks to all of our administrative folks for the great work that they
do throughout the entire year!
