Avenue to Oak Street, and rehabilitating Warrior Drive, High Ridge Circle,
and Sibley Court. Staff met with ISD197 on Tuesday with a follow-up
meeting on Wednesday to discuss their role in the project. ISD197 will be a
financial contributor to the project. As part of the Feasibility Report,

City Council would be held this fall (October/November).

SET UP THE ACCOUNT
Help create your child's account for them. Know their username and password.
Login at least once a week to verify there are no inappropriate private messages and
everything looks ok.
SET THE PRIVACY SETTINGS
Be strict with your child's settings. If you click on the lock symbol in the upper right
hand corner, you will see Privacy Shortcuts dropdown. Review and choose your
settings carefully.
MONITOR WHO THEY FRIEND
Have a conversation first with your child about who is appropriate for them to
socialize with and who is not. Have your child only friend people you know and
trust. Once in a while it doesn't hurt to speak with those people and ask if your child
is doing anything unsafe.
EVERYTHING IN MODERATION
Facebook is a great way to interact with others but can also get in the way of real life
socialization. Hiding behind a screen can make a child feel like they cant be touched
and will say anything to anyone. Whether person to person or through Facebook,
the respect still needs to adhere. Facebook usage should be monitored just as TV,
video games and other screens.
IF YOUR CHILD IS ON FACEBOOK, YOU SHOULD BE ON FACEBOOK
Even if you don't like social media, chances are your child will eventually want an
account. It would be helpful to also be on social media to monitor their actions.
Talk with your child about what they are doing online and seeing to create an open
and honest relationship.
KNOW THE RISKS AND BENEFITS OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Facebook is an amazing world yet a terrifying world. It is an opportunity to be
exposed to new people, new ideas, family members, far off locations and events.
They are also exposed to potential predators and scam artists making them easy
prey. Talk with your children about all of the potential threats.

I often get asked, when
does crime peak during the
calendar year?
In a simple response,
crime is year round
however, warmer weather
does invite more criminal
activity.
Here are a few tips to help
you avoid being a victim:
• Make sure your vehicles
and residence are secured
and locked. Also make
sure you overhead garage
door is shut.
• If your home or vehicle
has an alarm system, use
it.
• Don't ever leave any
valuables in plain view.
• If you see something, SAY
SOMETHING. Immediately
report any suspicious
activity to your local PD.
• Notify family or neighbors
when leaving your home
for an extended period of
time so they can keep an
eye on your home.
• Consider installing motion
lights on your home if you
haven't done so already.
