The National Night to Unite is scheduled for
Tuesday, August 7, 2012. This is a great op-
portunity to meet neighbors and get to know
public safety staff a little better. For more infor-
mation pertaining to Night to Unite and how to
get involved, check the city’s website or con-
tact Crime Prevention Officer Denise Urmann

Building Activity Picking Up
The planning commission noted at their meeting
this past Tuesday evening that building con-
struction activity has been on the uptick in Men-
dota Heights. The commission heard planning
applications relating to three new homes across
the community. Additionally, the final undevel-
oped lot in the Hidden Creek Development is
nearing completion and staff is reviewing plans
for a new home in Curley’s Addition. Besides
residential development, the St. Thomas Acade-
my expansion is moving swiftly and the White
Pine Senior Living project at Mendota Plaza will
start soon. It is nice to be working on so many
exciting projects.

MnDOT Projects
The following projects are under the direction of MnDOT and Dakota County.
They are presented as information only. For more information on MnDOT
projects contact J.P. Gillach (651-234-7503, james.gillach@state.mn.us).
Highway 13 Resurfacing – The Resurfacing of Highway 13, along with
drainage improvements and ADA upgrades between I-35W and Annapolis
Street (Burnsville to St. Paul) has been underway since May. The portion of
Highway 13 from 2nd Street in Mendota to I-35E in Lilydale will be exempted
from this project and reconstructed in 2015 under a separate MnDOT
project. The portion of Highway 13 through Mendota is scheduled to
be resurfaced later in August, followed by the portion from I-35E to
Wachtler Avenue.
Old Sibley Memorial Highway – MnDOT has informed other affected
agencies, including the City of Mendota Heights, of their intention to give up
the right-of-way for Old Sibley Memorial Highway from Highway 13 at
Mendota Heights Road to Highway 13 near Saint Peter’s Church. Staff me t
with representatives from MnDOT on Tuesday to discuss the next phase of
the MnDOT process. Originally public open houses were going to take place
this fall, but after researching the project and talking to affected property
owners, MnDOT has decided that before any public open houses take place,
they should meet with the Dakota County Board of Commissioners an d
Mendota Heights City Council to discuss alternatives. These meetings will
likely be held over the winter.
