RESOLUTION NO. 03-72
RESOLUTION COMMENDING ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH ON
THEIR 150TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, St Peter's Catholic Church was established in 1840 in a log cabin on
the grounds of the Sibley House in Mendota Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the existing stone church was constructed in 1853 once the log cabin
became inadequate to meet the growing demands of the Parish; and
WHEREAS, St. Peter's Catholic Church was declared a historic site by the U.S.
Department of the Interior in 1935; and
WHEREAS, St Peter's Catholic Church has continued to grow and thrive since
1853, and enjoys a rich heritage in the Mendota/Mendota Heights community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Mendota Heights recognizes this important
historical asset in our City; and
WHEREAS, St. Peter's Catholic Church, the oldest Catholic Church in Minnesota,
is celebrating its 150"' year Anniversary
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Mendota Heights, Minnesota that the City formally recognizes the 150 -year anniversary
of St. Peter's Catholic Church and wishes to thank and congratulate the Parish for their
longevity, their historical presence and their contributions to the community.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights this 19th day of August
2003.
