RESOLUTION 2014 - 06
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING DAKOTA COUNTY GRANT APPLICATION
FOR A PEDESTRIAN UNDERPASS CROSSING OF HIGHWAY 110
WHEREAS Dakota County has developed and adopted the Mendota to Lebanon Hills
Regional Greenway Master Plan, which recommends a pedestrian underpass under State Trunk
Highway 110; and
WHEREAS the proposed underpass would provide a critical link between the North
Urban Regional Trail and the planned Mendota Lebanon Hills Regional Greenway; and
WHEREAS the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning a
rehabilitation of Highway 110 in 2017 and has indicated a willingness to incorporate the
proposed grade separated underpass into the design and construction of their project at the
County's expense; and
WHEREAS coordination of the underpass construction with the MnDOT Highway 110
2017 rehabilitation project would provide significant cost savings and increase the efficiency of
construction; and
WHEREAS Dakota County has requested a statement of support from the City of
Mendota Heights for a Federal Transportation Alternatives Program grant to secure $1 million to
be applied to the pedestrian underpass project; and
WHEREAS Dakota County has committed to providing the local funding match
required of any grant received, as well as to owning and maintaining the underpass as part of the
regional greenway system.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mendota Heights City Council that
the City of Mendota Heights supports the efforts of Dakota County in obtaining grant money to
construct a pedestrian underpass in the vicinity of the highway's intersection with Highway 149
(Dodd Road).
